Show Notes

This week I have the pleasure of bringing Brett Bech on the podcast.  Brett is a former football player spending time with LSU, Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints in the NFL.  He also spent a decade as the Strength & Conditioning coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

We get some great insight into Brett's career as a player and the overall importance of work ethic and a proper support network.  Surrounding yourself with the right people as an athlete can be crucial as you are coming up. Having people to help push you helps you find your path.  To be able to learn from others around you and continue to forge your own path as an athlete is only going to make you better.  Learning the role Brett's parents played for him growing up was really inspirational. I believe a lot of parents are great at this but a lot of parents of young athletes could also learn a lot from this.

Further, Brett discussed training in college.  Looking back on his training and understanding that recovery was something he neglected truly shows me that this is an important element of training that athletes need to be working on.

More than anything I think Brett's career as an athlete shows me that the mentality of an athlete is the most important.  Being able to understand what you can do regardless of what odds are stacked against you and putting in the work to make it happen regardless.  I love his mentality and think athletes everywhere can learn from this.

As a Strength & Conditioning Coach, Brett's biggest realization on what separates the worlds top athletes is passion.  The drive to be on the field day in and day out. The drive to be better, to work harder, to be around the game.  These are the things that separate athletes he has worked with like Dez Bryant, Dak Prescott, Jason Whitten, etc.

I chose this title for a simple reason.  That mentality that you will have to kill me to tell me I'm not good enough is ultimately the way that you will extend your athletic career.  No matter what someone says to you, or what others think, don't let it stop you.  Let it drive you instead. Let it fuel your desire to reach the best level you can reach.  This is the way we succeed.  Plain and simple.
