Show Notes

This week I had the pleasure of bringing Melissa 'Scare' Croden on the podcast.  Melissa is a 2-1 professional MMA fighter here in Alberta.  We had a great talk about her journey into professional MMA, learning from her first loss, and what it really means to chase a dream in professional sport.   Please listen to the point of the interview where we talk about her first loss in MMA. There were no excuses, only accountability.  She immediately went to what SHE could have done better and how SHE could have better prepared to avoid the loss.  There was no blame put on anyone else. This is what makes a true pro.

The title, 'Limit Yourself To Become Limitless' is a great quote from this interview.  Melissa discusses the importance of learning and continuing to develop the fundamentals.  These fighters you see with these highlight reel finishes, throwing "spinny shit" did not just wake up one day knowing how to do this.  This comes from years and countless hours of mastery on the fundamentals of the sport.  This is an issue I find commonly overlooked in kids today.  Everyone wants to skip to the end of the line and be the pro with the highlight reel moves right now.  By simply learning to be patient, learning to take a step back and focus on the process, you could very well become that.  By simply trying to be that right now, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Melissa also goes into some extremely important details for fighters.  Advice on taking your first fight, what it was like turning pro, even how to get in to do your training camps at the MMA super camps you see around the world.  It is easier to get into these camps than you might think.  Developing a career and a network as an athlete is a crucial, under valued element, especially in a sport like MMA.

Thank you Melissa, what a great interview! I can't wait to see what the future holds for you.
