This week I have the pleasure of talking with Mads Sogaard on the show. Mads is a goaltending prospect within the Ottawa Senators organization in the NHL. It has been Mads's lifelong goal to play in the NHL.  He talks early on about the commitment to the process. Even as a young kid, not eating chocolate before practice because he was told by a coach that he shouldn't.
.
Mads was playing professional hockey in Denmark at 15 years old. At this moment is when he decided to dial things in and really reach his true potential in hockey. This is SUCH a great example for young athletes on what it takes to reach the professional ranks in sport.
From committing to the little things day to day, to listening and learning from older guys on his team as a young kid to just keeping it in his mind to do everything he can every day to be the best he can be, Mads is a phenomenal example of what it takes to be a true professional.
.
One of my biggest takeaways from Mads was the lessons he learned from his time in pro hockey in Denmark.  Not letting yourself get too high or too low within any game. Keeping your head level no matter if the game is going well for you or not.  If you let in a bad goal, move on and try to make the next save. Learning to work on your mental game early in your career will allow you to move past difficult moments and continue to progress no matter what you are facing.
.
One other very important piece from this interview was Mads advice on preparing to be away from home for sport for the first time. Not being afraid to speak up if you are struggling, making sure that you are open and using the resources around you to help you get through difficult days.
