This week I have the pleasure of bringing Vegas Golden Knights prospect Zack Hayes on the show. Zack was a 9th round WHL draft pick for the Prince Albert Raiders where he played five years. He went to the Anaheim Ducks camp as a 19 year old and ended up signing with the Henderson Golden Knights after his 20 year old season.
In this interview we talked about so many different key factors of building a successful career as an athlete.
As a young kid, understanding how to properly dial yourself in and focus when you’re training. Zack states it does NOT have to be every minute of every day as so many people like to preach, but for the time you are spending working on your future in sports, focus on it hard and get the most out of it.
One of the most important points I found from this interview was when Zack was discussing his time with PA and said “You don’t need to have a letter to be a leader.” His take on what leadership truly means within a team setting was eye opening. Leaders don’t need to be the vocal guy in the room, or the guy yelling at everyone to do their jobs… Every player on the team can be a leader by showing up every day and doing their best to do the job that is expected of them, no matter what that is. That allows you as a player to be able to hold your teammates more accountable to a higher standard set by the team.
