This week on the show is Ryan Gearheart. Ryan is a strength and conditioning coach for the University of Georgia Baseball Program.

We go through a lot of the ins and outs of coaching in the collegiate setting through the interview. I really like Ryan’s approach to developing the strength and conditioning program for his players. Understanding the role that the coaches knowledge plays, but also understanding that there is SO much more to it than just understanding anatomy and physiology. The intricacies of scheduling in training sessions for athletes at these levels, time constraints, equipment constraints and SO much more always play a role. For coaches out there this was an extremely important takeaway I hope you can understand and apply back to your own career.

.

We then discuss the importance of BUY IN from athletes. If you are going to make it to the top in your sport, this is critical. However, it is important to remember that as much as it is up to you to own your position, own the ups and downs of your career, it is also important to surround yourself with coaches that you can buy into. This does not mean blindly following orders, but set yourself in a position where you can learn from your coaches and work WITH them to create your own success. The more you UNDERSTAND about the process, the better off you will be and the more likely you are to buy into it.
