This week I sit down with National Rugby League Strength Coach Andrew Berridge. Coming from an intense sporting background, Andrew has been a strength coach for 18 years with experience coaching in all different kinds of populations, finding his success within Rugby League, having spent time working with all different ages of the pathway programs, finally settling into a professional setting.

We cover a wide range of topics in the interview, I believe helping both athletes and coaches. For athletes we discuss how to go about starting to create your own pathway program, based off of Andrews experiences, and the habits to start building in your younger years to put yourself on the right path to be successful as your career wears on. We also discuss the importance of practicing being a professional at all times in order to have the important habits come more naturally.

.

As well I believe one of the most important pieces that we touch on in the interview is our discussion about what to look for and what not to look for in a strength coach. We work in an industry where people almost fetishize degrees & certifications. Not that these are in ANY way a bad thing, but you need to better understand as both a coach and an athlete the importance of application. Andrew gives some great thoughts in our talk about what that should look like and how you can really tell the good coaches from the bad within our world.
